I know there are a few waiting to hear my opinion on the latest terror attacks that happened in France, the land of convictions for citizens who choose to wear religious dress and any anti Semitic comments. But you are rewarded for anti-Islam rhetoric. This is a topic for another time.
I would like to address those that are hijacking my faith and to those Muslim journalists. First to my fellow Muslims who every single time something like this happens you all jump to your computers and begin to write in your articles. If it is unknown who the attackers are, you say:”Please don’t be Muslim and or Arab” If we are fortunate enough to know the identity of the perpetrators, which I find the prowess of the police force all over the world so inept you say things like: ” Muslim fanatics, Muslim Terrorists”, or this jewel I read today: “murderers happen to share my faith.”
Why do you say these things? Do you not realize you are quantifying the very meme that has been pushed for 14 years that Islam and/or Muslim is synonymous with terrorism? These men do not share my faith and never will when their reaction to freedom of speech is this. Now I have written about Muslim writers before so I won’t go on any further.
This brings me to these masked men. As for those that would attack and or kill other people for drawing our Prophet Muhammad, they are not Muslim. Their actions of taking people’s lives or harming them because of their opinion is contrary to the teachings in Islam. The example of our Prophet himself is numberless of not killing people who called him a sorcerer or a false prophet. The attacks of the Prophet Muhammad isn’t anything new. They happened in his life and for over 1400 years, but only now since the dawn of the terrorist has the attacks begun? Even those in Pakistan and Afghanistan that rioted because some nobody burned Qurans.
One question, where from any of these attackers is their condemnation, anger, and violence for all the other prophets that are drawn and or ridiculed? Are we as Muslims not ordered to make no drawings of any of the prophets? We as Muslims hold no Prophet above any other. In fact, Prophet Muhammad said: “I am no different from the other messengers, nor do I know what will happen to me or to you. I only follow what is inspired to me. I am no more than a clear warner.” Quran, 46:9.
From the example of Prophet Muhammad, the very one these three men claim to be defending, one of his famous sayings which he said all the time: “to you be your way and to me be mine.” No better example than the story of Prophet Muhammad had trash thrown at him on a daily bases from an old woman day after day and the first day she didn’t he went looking for her to check on her well fare. How can any of their actions stop people from drawing prophets? It only goes to further cement in non-Muslims minds that Islam is intolerant and that the world’s largest religion is full of terrorists.
Only through conversation and healthy debate can we get anyone to see the truth. Like when we show verses from the Quran which demonstrate what we are to do when people defame any prophet. Quran 28:55 instructs, “Whenever they (believers) hear vain talk of ridicule, they withdraw from it decently and say, ‘“To us our deeds and to you yours; Peace be upon you, we do not seek to join the ignorant.” and again “When you see them engaged in vain discourse about Our Signs, turn away from them unless they engage in a different subject. If Satan ever makes you forget (i.e. your mind gets engrossed in their discourse,) then as soon as you recollect, no longer sit in the company of the people who confound the truth with falsehood.” – Quran 6:68.
Where do you see that we as Muslims are to systematically go and kill all those involved? We must address these accusations that Islam in inherently violent with patience and counter lies with truth, show from historical and Quranic examples of the contrary. This must be done with not just to non-Muslims but Muslims as well. This will help stop frustrated angry youth who find themselves without proper knowledge and understanding of the religion. There is already too much frustration and a world we live in of endless wars against Islam. Our media and in the 30 some odd Islamic countries foreign countries are actively occupying and or killing us to the sum of 3 million since the start of the war on terror.
These people who killed 12 innocent people do not define the religion of Islam nor do they help future Muslims who are in this fight to right the wrongs and stop the senseless verbal and physical attacks against Muslims. They do not help us in our efforts to correct the perception of Islam and Muslims when every time we get one step forward, all they do is knock us ten steps back. Not to mention the back lash of violence toward Muslims like in Narbonne France when grenades were thrown in to a Mosque in retaliation to the Paris shootings.
What does all this mean really to the novice? Well the actions of these men are their own and not commanded by the religion of Islam. In fact, by the living example of the very man they attempted to defend, he never did it. Also by the very religion he brought us, nowhere does it say to do these things. Instead we are commanded to engage them with conversation to try and show them the errors of their ways! If they do not then leave them, we are to have nothing to do with them till they correct themselves.
Lastly if any of you reading this have plans to do any heinous act like this, DON’T! It is not permissible. You are not a warrior for God. You are not commanded to do it by any of the teachings of Prophet Muhammad or the Quran. Instead, learn your religion and verbally condemn any depictions of ANY PROPHET not the one that brought us Islam otherwise you just make it look like you are placing one prophet over the rest.
